At present the only access into Hendy works is via an unmanned regional railway line crossing. Prior to commencement of the site works, a full time rail attendant will be in place to supervise all pedestrian and vehicular access to the site. This will be a responsible representative of Amey-Rail. It is of the utmost importance that no access is to take place without the consent of the rail crossing supervisor. Upon arrival on site all delivery drivers must contact the crossing supervisor. The crossing supervisor will then phone through to the signalman who will specify the time of the next train to pass at the crossing point. The crossing supervisor will then decide whether the crossing of the track can be done safely. If necessary, deliveries will be delayed until it is deemed safe to cross the railway line. It is of the sole discretion of the crossing supervisor as to whether it is safe to cross the railway. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MUST A DELIVERY BE MADE WITHOUT PRIOR CONSENT FROM THE CROSSING SUPERVISOR. All deliveries to site will be co-ordinated in such a way that the transport company will first telephone the Site Manager on 07736 162847 or the Site Supervisor on 07801 663006. This is to make sure there are no unscheduled deliveries made to site. On arrival the operator will park up the vehicle on the common ground situated on the opposite side of the works and report to attendant Amey-Rail crossing supervisors office situated adjacent to the crossing point. On arrival he will be met by a DLCE banksman and immediately made aware of the Overhead Power Lines that cross the site. Goal post have been erected in accordance with Health and Safety Executive guidance notes GS6 (see attached sheet) each side of the railway crossing and within the compound area, he will then be directed to the working or lay down area (this also applies to all other sub contract deliveries). All unloading activities will be away from the overhead power lines in a designated area set aside for such activities (area still to be confirmed). This activity will come under the control of a DLCE Banksman / Banksmen. Access into the car park sited opposite the works is limited. Vehicles should be kept to a minimum. Site vehicles shall be parked in permitted areas only. During the construction period, the car park will remain open to the public. Large plant such as excavators, dumpers etc will be delivered on low loaders (some articulated). It is vital that prior to any such delivery that operatives on site are aware of such deliveries and that provisions are made to ensure the vehicle is directed into site with the minimum of inconvenience to members of the public and other road users. Unloading areas will be coned off and the unloading activity will come under the direction of the haulage contractor and DLCE banksmen.
