Overhead cables run across the area and works will be positioned to comply with the restrictions imposed by Western Power Distribution. The area is tidal and the times and heights of tide will be studied to minimise risk and disruption to the works.
This scheme has resulted from the collapse of the existing 52" main sewer from Gowerton works in the area of the tidal flood plain of the River Lougher.The whole scheme involves the replacement of 450metres of twin 1350mm concrete pipes at a depth of five metres.
The construction methods adopted reflect the area has an environmental designation of local and international importance. The work is to be carried out on a salt marsh located on the Loughor Estuary. The area falls within a site of special scientific interest: (SSS1) and (cSAC) and will therefore required assent from the countryside Council for Wales, for the work to be carried out.
Topographical and Ecological surveys are being taken to ensure correct methods of removal and replacement of salt marsh communities within the (SSS1). The project is being managed by Len Shaw and Breffni Clarke with our alliance partners Morrison Construction.
