South Eastern Coastal Strategy: Chepstow to Nash Transfer Pipeline:

The requirement to clean up the South Eastern coast of Wales led to our award of the largest project of its type currently being undertaken within the UK. The contract involved construction of 32km of transfer pipeline between
Chepstow and Newport [30Q-700mm diameter] within the highly sensitive SSSI's and nature reserves of the Gwent Levels. Whilst initially opposed by environmental parties and landowners extensive liaison and design input determined a route and construction methodology which permitted construction. A major acknowledgement of the confidence of the company being granted by the Environment Agency/Countryside Council for Wales, in permitting the pipeline to be laid through the recently completed Gwent Levels Wetlands Reserve.
The pipeline also included the crossing of 130 fresh water reens, pipejacks under both the M4 motorway and major rail lines [5Nr] and the directionally drilled crossing of the River Wye in two locations. Siteworks commenced in August 1999 with the main being made available for flow transfer in December '00. The pipeline was handed over to the client below target as the result of contractor led alternative routes.
As a performance indicator of the pipeline contract our order was extended to include all civil, mechanical and electrical elements of the six pumping stations and partially screened outfall tanks, screen chambers, valve chambers, MCC cubicles and storm/foul pump sumps.
Our management of both civil and mechanical contracts has ensured the completion of the scheme on target and ensured all party involvement of a successful project.
